Daunting yet beautiful, the distant Manhattan landscape shares the spotlight with four foreground survivors. Man’s footprint has obviously enlarged since he first stepped on these shores hundreds of years ago. To think that the burden was once on man to survive the challenges of the land echoes in cautious irony here; it can not be forgotten that nature ultimately finds a way. The immutable magnificent moon quietly waits. And four triumphant geese speak volumes for the silenced in a delicate balance portrayed here in this “night watch on the Hudson.”
