Five ducks address the thought of making the plunge. In the upper background shadows, one bird ducks away, unable to face his destiny. A second faces down, captured by weakness of spirit. The third foreground duck, wings painted in partial light and color, dares to brush his bill with the shadowy waves. A fourth, bill and neck partially submerged, has chosen to meet the challenge of life. Direct and pure light strengthens the line of its upper wings. The fifth duck, buoyed by calmer waters and a constant guiding light that ironically follows, swims forward with confidence. A certain liberty of spirit evolves from right to left in this scene from nature. We are taken, if only subliminally, to our own life challenges. We are reminded that but a little “leap of faith” draws us closer to our own natural destiny, a destiny bathed and born again in the ultimate peace and light.
