Believe in the Music: Death
A distance down the cobblestone stairs, the bagpiper plays – lone wailing pipes, the weariness of a soul expressing an indebted good-bye to a world well spent. At the bottom of the stairs, the crashing waves against well-worn rock reverberate this weary exit from earthly life. The piper’s highlander shirt, almost “nightshirt” in appearance, reflects the shroud-like mood of a burial. Still, the piper’s onward gaze, beyond the earthly elements surrounding him, suggests something more. Where oceans of water and rocky elements form the basis for this life, new other-worldly life is swirling in its infancy at the top of the stairs. At the edge of a cliff, light from the sky and beyond bathes a fresh cemetery stone, beckoning its spirit. And while the mourners at the scene hear the pipes and the wails of the spirit in their hearts, the departing soul is yet drawn to a new sound, a new reason to “believe in the music.”
